"You have a wonderful place and we had an absolutely grand time. This was the largest and most pleasant reunion we have ever had in large part because of your wonderful hotel and outstanding hospitality. We will certainly be back. I can't thank you enough."

Glen Hotel History

Post marked August 1925
Hotel under construction |
Originally known as Hotel Glen Rose or Glen Rose Hotel, the Glen Hotel began construction in the mid-1920's and opened its doors for business in 1928. At the time, Glen Rose was an attractive destination for tourists seeking the soothing and healing powers of the towns many mineral springs. After only one year in business, the hotel succumbed to harsh
economic times of the depression and closed its doors for the next ten years. Upon reopening in 1939, the hotel offered comfortable accommodations, including home cooked meals in the back dining room. Diners would travel down from Dallas just to eat at the hotel dining room. In fact, we have had guests that can remember coming here to eat as children. From 1939 to the mid-1970's, the hotel was under the control of two different
owner's. During this time the hotel had a reputation of an upscale place to stay and served as a quasi-boarding house for many women whose husbands were serving in war. |

Circa 1970's |
We have had a number of guests tell us stories about how their parents or grandparents were married at the hotel. In the mid-1970s to 2004, the hotel was under two separate ownerships. During this time, the hotel deteriorated substantially to the point that many of the rooms were not habitable. The hallway was closed off and the entire lower level with the
exception of the front lobby was used as private living quarters and was not open to the public. The hotel was largely known for a bar that was just off the front lobby during this period. Upon purchasing the property, we have renovated the entire hotel and have attempted to restore it to its glory days. As you can see from the photographs, the hotel has remained relatively unchanged since 1925. Stories are endless about fine
dining, social events, shootings, ghosts, etc. Only if walls could talk! We welcome anyone with pictures, information or stories about the hotel to share that with us. |

| The Glen Hotel often accommodated overflow patients from the Snyder Sanitarium, which was next door. We found this "information sheet" interesting and thought you might also. Note the quote from the U.S. Geological Survey about the mineral waters in Glen Rose. There are currently drinking fountains on the town square with mineral water. |
